Brief History (pdf)
In the mid 70’s there was a popular horn band called MacNasty that played cover songs regularly in the Omaha area. Most of the members were attending UNO at the time.
After graduation, jobs, marriages and family happened, and the band broke up, as the original members scattered across the country with their new lives.
In 2003, Gery Illgner, the MacNasty keyboard player, decided to get a band together in Kansas City for a one night stand for a surprise birthday, which reunited 5 of the 7 original MacNasty members.
That night resurrected Gery’s love of music and he has been playing with “One Night Stand” in KC ever since.
10 years later, Tim Brechbill, one of the MacNasty sax players, organized a MacNasty reunion gig with all 7 of the original members getting back together in Omaha, traveling from New York, California, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Kansas.
Amazingly everyone had continued in some fashion with their love of music. After nearly 40 years since they last played together and 2 short rehearsals, things felt like the old days.
When Tim retired from Union Pacific in late 2017, he was ready to get back into a horn band and coerced Gery, and Joel Edwards, from the original MacNasty and still in the Omaha area, to join him in 2018 as the heart of Heartland Boogie Band.
They are joined by 6 exceptionally talented local musicians, Ashley Struebing, Chris Johnson, Mike De Luca, Tim Miklas, Clarke Edson, and Rich Felt, and are having a blast playing the greatest music ever made!
With a combined more than 150 years of professional music experience, Heartland Boogie Band is truly one of the premier horn bands in the area.
